Dr. Mark A. Strand

Dr. Strand's Ph.D. was earned in the Department of Health and Behavior Science at the University of Colorado at Denver. His doctoral work determined the prevalence of rickets in Chinese children, until then a matter of uncertainty among global health organizations. He has worked in the non-profit sector in China since 1994 with the American NGO Evergreen, including applied research to promote the development of evidence-based health systems, especially in the area of community health. He has consulted with the World Bank on two of their China projects. He was involved in introducing basic public health concepts during the SARS crisis in China which led to increased interest in infectious disease outbreaks in the developing world. Recent work includes the problem of infectious disease among migrant workers. He is currently teaching a course entitled "The Global Threat of Infectious Disease."
