Molly J. Dingel, Ph.D.

Molly Dingel joined the department in 2007.  Prior to this appointment, Dr. Dingel completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where she was project manager of a research project funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse entitled, "Genetics of Nicotine Addiction: Examining Ethics & Policy."  Dr. Dingel’s research interests include how new technology and research, like new imaging technology, genetic studies, or knowledge of disease transmission, are changing the field of medicine.  Specifically, focusing on different biological or social factors changes what we understand to be the best strategies to control the human and economic costs resulting from those illnesses.  Dr. Dingel is also interested in and has done research on media portrayals of science/medical research.  Dr. Dingel’s main teaching areas are the sociology of science and medicine, methodology, and social theory.
